Winter hike to Hochalm

Christmas holidays are already here but big family celebrations will not be possible this year. So you may have a few more days off than usual.

If the weather is inviting and you want to go on a nice winter hike, I suggest a leisurely, sunny hike to Hochalm near Sylvenstein Reservoir. This hike is also a perfect family hike with children from 6 years up.

In winter, it starts to get dark by 4pm. By 5pm it is pitch black. Therefore, you should start early on a winter hike and take these things with you:

- a headlamp and warm clothes in case you are not down in time,

- shoe spikes for icy paths,

- poles and gaiters for trudging through snow and mud, and

- a thermos with a hot drink.

More details see also Packing list.

On the hike, be careful with yourself and with those around you. This also means keeping your distance so that you don’t walk directly behind fellow hikers and in their aerosol mist and to set out for simpler destinations so that mountain rescues are not necessary.

The Alpine Club has put together recommendations for mountain sports in Corona times (in German).

As soon as it is possible again, we start for the next Berglicht hike together.

On Wednesday, 20 January, I have planned a pleasant winter hike. You can register on the website of DAV.

If this date does not work out because of still high infection rates, I will send an alternative date as soon as possible. If you have already registered for January 20, I will hold a place for you for the next date.

I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful time over the holidays!

Take care and see you soon,

Denise
