International hiking

Dear friend of Berglicht, I wish you a happy and healthy new year 2021!

It is important to me that people from all countries feel welcome. That's why I write everything at Berglicht in German and English, even if my English is not perfect ;-).

The alpine club DAV München-Oberland would also like to provide an English webpage

with the most important information for international club members and interested people and therefore asks us for help.

The club is looking for someone who is a native English speaker and would translate

this info page of the DAV München-Oberland on a voluntary basis. This should not be a literal one-to-one translation, but modern and appealing English.

Can you help? Or do you know someone who could help?

Just drop me an email and I send you the template. It would be great if we could support fellow citizens who speak little or no German to have access to mountain activities.

We are now in the middle of a beautiful, white winter. I'm sure you've already enjoyed the snow and maybe you've gone on a nice winter hike.

You can get many hiking ideas and tips from the alpenvereinaktiv.com website or app.

Unfortunately not every function and every contents are translated yet. To search for a winter hike you click on “Tours” and use the filter function. You can also limit the difficulty levels and zoom into a region.

Here is an example of winter hikes in Garmisch. I can recommend the hike to the Gschwandtnerbauer. It is about 10 km long and you have to walk up about 550 meters in altitude, so it's a fitting Berglicht hike. You can go by train to Garmisch. It's only a 20 min walk from the train station in Garmisch to the starting point.

For winter hikes you should start early because it gets dark very soon. Take a look at the packing list, too.

Mountain sports on your own, in pairs or with members of your own household are currently possible and permitted. Of course, only if you don’t live in a Corona hotspot.

As soon as group hikes are possible again, I will announce the date for the next Berglicht hike. You can then register for it on the DAV website.

In the meanwhile, let's enjoy what is possible and reasonable. I will stick to what someone wrote to me recently:

Think positive and do everything not to become (Corona) positive.

With that in mind, take good care of yourself and see you soon,

Denise

Do you enjoy Berglicht hikes and newsletters? If you have a friend who might like them too, why not send her or him the link to Berglicht?
