On the Riederstein: Sun, glittering snow and a very nice group

Everyone is on time at Munich Central Station. So we can take our time to buy the tickets and look for good places for all ten participants in the train. The sun tickles us through the train window and accompanies us to the snow-covered mountains at Tegernsee. Today we have the best weather of the week!

In Tegernsee it is slightly colder than in Munich and there is snow even in the valley. Well equipped and in warm clothes we start our the hike uphill. Quickly it gets too warm and the first jackets end up in the backpack. We walk between hedges, over open meadows and passing the last houses of the town having nice conversations. The path becomes steeper, the forest thicker and there is more and more snow until we reach Pfliegeleck.

At the Pfliegeleck we have a great view on the lake Tegernsee and two comfortable benches to spread our stuff. We have a snack and take plenty of pictures: group pictures with a selfie stick and self-timer, individual portraits in front of the winter panorama and lots of pictures of the sugary landscape and the snow-covered details all around. But at some point we have to leave. After all, we want to reach the Riederstein.

We walk through the forest, everything around us is white and the fresh snow glistens in the sun. Who would have expected so much snow after this very mild winter? Between the trees from time to time we can see a glimpse of Wallberg, Setzberg, Bodenschneid and Leonardistein. Suddenly the forest opens and we are standing on the sunny, snow-covered meadow in front of the hut Galaunalm. The Riederstein Chapel sits enthroned on a steep rock above the hut and some wonder how we would get up there.

Two paths lead from the hut Galaunalm to the top of Riederstein. We take the steeper path. There are pictures with all stations of the way of the cross on this steep path up to the Riederstein chapel.

Only behind the chapel the impressive panorama of Tegernsee appears. On the small viewing terrace behind the chapel, some try to name the mountains, the hungry ones prefer to eat their snack on the bench and the photo aficionados fill their SD card with lots of photos. Only the connoisseurs simply let their gaze wander.

The sun decides that we had enough of their grace and slowly disappears behind the clouds. It's time to make our way back to the Galaunalm, because it is getting quite cold up there and our hiking friend and a warm meal are waiting for us at the hut. We take the slightly longer but easier path down. The snow is pretty slippery and so the hiking sticks are a great help here.

At the hut everyone heads for something delicious to eat. Depending on the preferences we have tea and cake or beer and cabbage. Well fed, warmed up and rested, we take the "Dicke Leiten" forest paths back to the valley and the train station.

That was really a wonderful hike!
