With snowshoes to the Heuberg

The hiking trail at Duftbräu is quite icy, so we put on the snowshoes or "Grödel".

For a while we hike along the creek.

It is easy to walk on the hard snow.

In this clearing, the sun has already softened the snow. This is ideal for our exercise to search avalanche victims. Where is the buried transmitter?

Signal search, coarse search, fine search, probing, ...here it is where the transmitter must be. Now it just needs to be dug out.

After everyone has set their avalanche transceivers back to transmit, we continue the snowshoe hike.

Is this the way up?

It gets steeper and more strenuous.

After having managed to climb the steep slope, the way through the forest is a bit tedious.

But then we finally reach the summit of the Heuberg! What a great view into the Inn Valley.

Our tired faces turn very happy.

The cold wind at the summit is not inviting to stay long. Besides, the innkeeper of the Deindlalm is already waiting for us. So we make our way downhill.

The descent is not so easy. We struggle with broken snowshoe straps, which we try to save with cable ties, and have to be quite careful on the steep, slippery path through the forest.

Then we have to walk down the steep slope through the very unevenly deep snow.

Well, here we go.

After trying out different descent techniques and after a few snow-padded falls, we reach easier terrain.

Soon we arrive at the alp.

We unstrap our snowshoes, lean them against the beer box counter and get into the warm restaurant. The landlord of the Deindlalm can't resist from remarking that we arrive much later than announced.

But we may still quench our thirst and hunger at the alp ;-)

Cheerfully we set off on the descent.

The weather is slowly clouding over. We walk through a fascinating black and white landscape.

Along the creek.

Back down at the Duftbräu.

We throw our backpacks and snowshoes into the luggage compartment and cheerfully and comfortably drive back in the Stattauto minibus. It was quite arduous today and a really great snow experience.
