Wendelstein with Spitzingscheibe and Türkenköpfl

This time we hike the Wendelstein (1838 m) with the open touring program of the alpine club DAV Munich & Oberland.

We take the train to Bayrischzell early in the morning.

In Geitau we get off the train and walk through the beautifully colored autumnal forest.

Soon the forest thins out..

There it is, the Wendelstein, our summit.

Passing the Riederalm.

The trail continues going up.

At the Spitzingalmen the Wendelstein can be seen in its full splendor.

At the Spitzingscheibe (1270 m) we have a magnificient view into the Leitzach valley.

A short hike later we see the Spitzingalmen and the small elevation called Spitzingscheibe below us.

Further up we take a turnoff to Türkenköpfl (1512 m) and enjoy our snack break with a perfect view.

At the Türkenköpfl there is a stone with a writing from #SteinVonDaheim.

From our break spot on a meadow we look towards the Munich gravel plain which is still partly covered in the morning mist.

Then we set off for our main destination, the Wendelstein.

Up here we can still find really beautiful mushrooms at this time of the year.

At a spring we can refill our water supplies - not quite slylishly.

Then we meet the main path to the Wendelsteinhaus. Now it is getting quite steep and not so lonely any more.

The view is already impressive.

The view over the Spitzingscheibe down into the Leitzachtal.

With the gondola it would have been much less exhausting ;-)

There are a lot of people at the Wendelsteinhaus on this sunny Sunday in October.

We walk past the house and take the paved path to the summit.

View to the viewing platform "Gacher Blick" (gach = abrupt, steep).

Steep view onto the steep view "Gacher Blick".

At the summit, besides a lot of people, an incredible panorama of the Wilder Kaiser, the Großglockner, the Großvenediger and many, many more peaks await us.

The Wilder Kaiser.

After admiring the wide panorama we start our way downwards in search for a nice hut to stop for a bite to eat.

Down there is the Wendelsteinalm. Will we get coffee and cake there?

The Wendelsteinalm (1420 m) is a rustic, almost 100 year old alpine hut. Unfortunately there is no coffee, which some of us urgently wish for. So we continue towards the Siglhof.

Descending is less challenging.

The Siglhof, an old mountain farm on Hochkreuth with free-range chickens and a large playground, is very popular.

By the way, the name "Kreuth" comes from "Roden" (clearing land from trees) and so "Hochkreuth" means "high clearing".

Decoration on the fences around the Siglhof.

This tasty cake was definitely worth the queuing!

Well fed we take the short walk to Bayrischzell.

One last look back at the Wendelstein.

Then we follow Little Red Riding Hood into the dark forest.

Luckily the sun is still shining through the forest.

We have a little time left, so we make a short detour to the bridge over the village bath Tannermühl. It is located at the end of a gorge with an 8 m high waterfall under steep stone pools.

In the village of Bayrischzell we even have the opportunity to clean our rather muddy boots in the idyllic Legerwaldgraben.

We really had a great tour on a wonderful day!

And here is our route in 3D:
