Up to the Wank - down without effort

For the hike up the Wank (1780 m) we have to climb a good 1100 meters of elevation gain. We start a little earlier than usually to have enough time for this long hike.

In Farchant we get off the train.

Farchant has some impressive typical Bavarian houses.

It is getting more rural.

We leave the road for the mountain trail.

It takes about 3 hours to reach the Wank.

It is cloudy, but steamy and not cold at all. So we take off our jackets.

The wet roots are nice to look at ... but also quite slippery.

The "Radhaus". A wordplay between Rathaus (city hall) and Radhaus (bicycle house).

Let's take a closer look!

At the "bicycle house" we actually meet a cyclist.

The weather forecast was right. It starts to rain a little bit.

It is getting more and more foggy, too.

The path becomes steeper. In zigzag we climb up.

This picturesque tree trunk is a wonderful photo motif.

The forest and the clouds open up to a view.

Very impressive, the Hoher Fricken.

Let's continue to the next viewpoint.

Panoramic view with the Kramer, Hoher Ziegspitz, Vorderer Feldernkopf and Laber.

Everywhere the alpenrose is blooming.

We are almost at the summit cross and have a great view despite clouds.

The Zugspitze is covered by clouds, but you can see the Waxensteine, Garmisch, the Kramer and the Vorderer Feldernkopf.

The summit cross.

The summit pool.

At the summit lodge.

In the Wankhaus we enjoy great food, spinach dumplings, Kaspress dumplings and more..

The landlady offers us a round of schnapps. She seems to be happy to have some guests in this weather ;-)

With or without schnapps, we enjoy our stay here at the lodge.

After this extensive rest, we make our way to the Wankbahn. The rain radar predicts heavier rain.

There it is, our dry alternative for the wet descent.

View from the cable car.

We have a nice walk to the train station before getting onto the train.

In Garmisch we take the train back to Munich.

Once again we had a great time together. The weather can't do us any harm!
