Lonely hike to the Hirschhörnlkopf

We park the minibus from Stattauto at the nearly empty hikers' parking lot in Jachenau and first get our bearings. Where are we and where do we want to go?

As a start we take a selfie.

The path is a little muddy.

That's where we are heading.

Beautiful daphne blossoms along the path.

It doesn't take long before we are walking in the snow.

Then it gets really steep.

At a nice place with a view we take a little rest.

Then it goes further up. There is a small tree growing from the root of a fallen tree.

On the steep path the snow is getting icy and slippery. So we take the shoe spikes out of our backpacks and try to get them onto our boots ;-)

Well equipped we walk safely now.

Shortly after the path is dry, but we still have spikes under our feet.

It is not far to the summit any more.

Here at the Pfundalm we can have our hiking break later.

But first we climb further up through the snow.

The snow is not without its pitfalls! Shall we help him out? ;-)

High above the Walchensee...

...we reach the summit of the Hirschhörnlkopf.

The panorama is somewhat clouded by the Sahara dust.

But this does not diminish our jollity.

Back at the Pfundalm we lie comfortably in the sun.

In the best of moods, we head downhill via the Kotalm.

The trail leads along steep flanks through a beautiful forest.

Who else is so good at synchronized obstacle hiking?

At the Kotalm we clean our shoe spikes with the well water (not in the well) and drink another sip of hot tea.

Oh, no! Our descent route is closed! That means that we have to take a detour via the forest road.

Unfortunately the forest road is largely covered with softened, deep snow, which makes walking somewhat laborious.

We take it with humor.

The snow-covered forest road was long and tiring. We arrive at the parking lot 7 hours after our start. Much later than planned, but at least before nightfall. A bit tired, but happy and satisfied we head back to Munich.

What was most incredible today? That we didn't meet any other people on this tour in the Bavarian Pre-Alps!
